Go to Krispy Kreme and get your free donut!
A relatively new fad sweeping the country, probably popularized by a show on the Food Network, has come to Richmond. The trucks have been around a while, probably a lot longer than I realize, but I don’t know when they started organizing events around town where a bunch of them get together and it’s a par-tay!
John and I had not been to one of these things before, so on Sunday we went to one held at our local Whole Foods. My main motivation to attend this particular one was the announcement that our favorite ice cream store was going to be there. Well, they weren’t. Disappointed in that. We had to drive down to the store and get our dessert there. Such a sacrifice LOL.
The most popular truck there was Boka Tako. It had the longest line. We waited 40 minutes or so for our food. Billed as Asian-Mexican-American Fusion, these are not Taco Bell tacos. I had the fish tako with agave-marinated watermelon and I don’t know what-all. John had the rib-eye tako with wasabi mayo. Worth the wait!
The beer tents:
Alligator? No thanks.
What’s a party without a band?
This wasn’t part of the event but it was parked by us, so of course I had to capture it. The license plate says 1929:
It was a beautiful day for such an experience.
The design wall looks a little different this week.
The two Chinese Coins are on their way to this Sunday’s Stitchers group without me as I have another obligation that day. Somebody will quilt them, someone else will bind them and I may or may not ever see them again.
I have two panels to work on now. I’ve got a plan for the fabric on the right, which isn’t really a panel, it’s a length of yardage but I’m going to pretend it’s a panel. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the other one, it really doesn’t need anything more than some extra borders. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
I think I’m supposed to link you back to Judy L.’s blog at this point.
Consider yourself linked.
I almost forgot today was Monday, what with the holiday and all. Feels more like Sunday to me.
While it doesn’t look like it, there is progress on the Chinese Coin quilts. The pastel quilt has a backing and the binding prepared. Just needs to be sandwiched and quilted. The blue and beige has a border. It’s not what I wanted to do, but I took the top to Joann’s and just couldn’t find another blue that would play nicely. I wanted to put a sorta-narrow beige border and then finish up with something darker but the blues didn’t work and I didn’t even see a brown that I liked. Maybe it was just me that day. So I ended up buying a similar tone-on-tone (because Stitchers’ stash didn’t have enough of the one I used for the coins) and made a 4″ border. I’m not crazy about either one of these, but I’m not comfortable pulling fabrics and coming up with a design. I like to start with a pattern and then shop for the fabrics. I envy the ladies at Stitchers who put together the neatest things on the fly. It’s just not my style.
“What Was I Thinking?” is done, all but the label. I will make a separate post once I get it photographed, but I have to tell you, it sure cleaned up nice. You can hardly tell it was once out of square, unless you know to look for it.
And I have one more UFO ready to bind.
Woohoo! It sure feels good to finish what I’ve started, know what I mean?
